ISHA Day on the Hill
A highlight this week was visiting with members of the Iowa Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) during their Speech Therapy Day on the Hill.
I especially enjoyed catching up with constituent Abbie Gacke, M.A., CCC-SLP, IBCLC, owner of Childworks Therapy Clinic in Sioux City. Abbie works as a speech-language pathologist, feeding specialist, orofacial myologist, and international board-certified lactation consultant, helping families navigate some of the most important early stages of development. Abbie has helped several of my friends with breastfeeding challenges and lip and tongue tie treatment. Speech therapists do more than just speech!
The Growing Role of Creators in Iowa
On Wednesday, the Capitol welcomed creators from across the state for Creator Day on the Hill, including JT Vonderhaar — known online as the “Iowa Investigator” — and Elizabeth Fleming (Liz from Iowa) with Iowa Starting Line.
JT and Liz have built a following on social media by sharing Iowa history and political stories in a way that reaches thousands of people across the state. It was great to catch up with him and Liz during their visit and talk about the growing role creators play in helping people stay informed and engaged in Iowa.
