Join us for Ope! Let Me Just Answer Your Questions — a relaxed Tuesday evening gathering to hear from Lt. Governor Candidate Dave Muhlbauer and Iowa State Senator Catelin Drey.
Politics can feel like something you’re supposed to already know how to do.
You’re supposed to know the candidates. Know the issues. Know what all the acronyms mean. Maybe even know exactly what question you want to ask before you walk through the door.
I don’t think it should work that way.
Sometimes getting involved can start with something much simpler: pulling up a chair.
On September 29, I’m hosting Iowa lieutenant governor candidate Dave Muhlbauer in Sioux City for an evening of good conversation, good questions and a chance to talk about where Iowa goes from here.
And I’d really love for you to join us.
Whether you’ve been volunteering on campaigns for twenty years, you started paying attention to Iowa politics twenty minutes ago, or you’re somewhere in between, there’s a place for you in the room.
Dave and I will talk about what we’re hearing from Iowans, what’s at stake this November and what we believe is possible for our state. More importantly, we want to hear from you.
I’ll be taking questions from the audience, so this isn’t an evening where you have to sit politely while politicians talk at you for an hour (that sounds legitimately terrible).
Got questions about public schools? Healthcare? What actually happens at the Capitol? Why elected officials do some of the deeply weird things we do?
Ope. Ask away.

We’re also building a host committee for the evening, with sponsorship opportunities beginning at $250 and additional levels at $500, $1,000 and $2,500. Those contributions help us keep organizing, reaching voters and building the kind of people-powered campaign it will take to win this November.
But this night is about more than raising money.
It’s about making the table a little bigger.
I believe politics works better when more people feel like they’re allowed to participate. You don’t need a political science degree. You don’t need to know the right people. You don’t need to have everything figured out.
You can just show up.
